What is Hypnosis or Hypnotherapy?
Hypnosis comes from the Greek word Hypnos who was the god of sleep. The word hypnosis was introduced into the popular consciousness by Dr. James Braid way back in the 1840’s and it is not a form of sleep. But in reality, you are very much awake and very much aware of your surroundings. Yes and I know you’ve seen the stage show where people are made to cluck like a chicken, this is entertainment and not Therapy.
Simply put, hypnotherapy is a therapy which takes place whilst a person is in a hypnotic state, or as some call it, in a trance! Please bear in mind that while you are in hypnosis, you are completely aware of your surroundings. Aware of what is being said, and will emerge with a full and accurate memory of everything that has taken place. This is why I call it Conscious Hypnosis because you are always consciously aware and in control of what’s happening at all times.
What is Clinical Hypnosis / Suggestion Therapy
Once a person has been induced into hypnosis, they become more receptive to post-hypnotic suggestions, which will bring about positive beneficial changes. Such as stop nail-biting, thumb sucking or Stop Smoking (Smoking Cessation). This is also known as clinical hypnotherapy.
What is Hypnoanalysis / Analytical Hypnotherapy
On the other hand, there is a branch of hypnotherapy called hypnoanalysis. This is a form of hypnotherapy where I would regress a person back into their formative years. Back here, we go looking for those things that once upset you as a child. For whatever reason, your subconscious still holds on to them or indeed has buried them. It is our job to find and release these old memories from the past and set you free from your presenting symptoms.

Anxiety – is how your body responds to stressful situations about to materialise, whether they are real or imagined. If the symptoms last more than six months, you may have an anxiety disorder. A survey by AnxietyUK found that more than 10% of adults will suffer from anxiety at some point in their lives.
Fears and Phobias – What is a phobia? A phobia is an irrational fear about something that poses little or no actual risk.
